L'Italiana in Algeri

L’italiana in Algeri is one of Gioachino Rossini’s most sparkling and entertaining operas, a masterpiece of the bel canto repertoire. Set in exotic Algiers, this lively comedy follows the clever and resourceful Isabella as she outwits everyone around her in a whirlwind of romance, intrigue, and laughter.

Rossini’s music demands true bel canto artistry, requiring voices of exceptional technique, agility, vocal colour, and expressive elegance. Exeter Opera Group is delighted to present this brilliant opera with an excellent cast of outstanding singers, bringing Rossini’s dazzling score to life with virtuosity, humour, and charm.

The EOG vision of this new production places Rossini's comedy in a vibrant world inspired by pirates (something to understand and follow from the story itself), bringing a fresh perspective to this timeless operatic favourite.
